Seriously Fun and Flirty
The Welcome Edition
Hello! Please allow me to warmly welcome you to my Substack. You might be here because you follow me on Instagram, saw my announcement of Seriously Fun and Flirty: The Substack, and nearly fell off your chair running to the link in my Bio so fast. Or maybe you’re here because you love Substack. Maybe you’re here because you love me. Maybe your friend sent you. Maybe you’re my mother (hello, Mom). Regardless of what brought you to this online space at this exact moment, I am certainly glad that you are, in fact, here! Welcome.
If you aren’t here from my Instagram, you might be unclear on what you’ve stumbled upon. Lucky for you, however, my Instagram didn’t get much of a gist of the situation, either. As far as those nerds are concerned, this is just “my thoughts on dressing, essentially… in your inbox every other Monday if you let it be.”
So basically — my name is Kennedy, I’m 24 years old, I live in Brooklyn and I work in fashion. I’m full of thoughts about what it is to be alive and to get dressed, as getting dressed is somehow both the greatest joy and most dreaded hell of being alive.
In addition to my thoughts, I’ve also had a private instagram account, seriouslfunandflirty, on which I have been incessantly posting for the past 4 years. I’ve long loved the username; think it has a nice ring to it, think it deserves a life beyond being a burner instagram account. I’ve even joked with my friends that it sounds like a fashion blog waiting to happen.
Which is ultimately what brings us here. I like seriously fun and flirty as a Substack because it’s kind of a guide to a fashionable life in its own way. Consider: We are not serious about much here, but when it comes to being fun and flirty, oh sweetie we’re pretty serious about that. I just think it’s a fun way to live and dress. Any time that I do anything, I want to feel free, expressive, and true to myself. I believe that it’s impossible to feel this way without being confident in/excited about what I am wearing. Clothing is, for better or for worse, the most obvious and immediate extensions of ourselves.
So, every other Monday I’ll be in your inbox in some capacity. Whether it’s a theory, an observation, a love letter to a garment, etc. will of course depend upon the season, what’s inspiring me, what’s happening in the industry, or really any number of things. Who’s to say? Please stay tuned for what is to come. I’m thinking every week will be “Seriously Fun and ____.” And that’s just about the only guideline I’m giving myself for this endeavor. As I said, I’m not serious about much other than being fun and flirty.
The last thing I want to mention here is that I think the burner is about to become the main, so to speak… so feel free to follow along on the IG space if you don’t already, where you can find me at seriouslyfunandflirty.
